Since this is the first of a series (I'm assuming a trilogy), I'm sure this will be addressed in future books. She has a past, but it is just briefly mentioned in the story. The one thing I wish was different was knowing more about the main character, Tori. Three Mages and a Margarita delivered it all. Her writing style never fails to suck me in to the fictional world she has created, craving more of everything. I literally could not put my Kindle down because I had to know what happened next. Annette Marie writes some of the best action scenes I've read, and she just keeps getting better. I devoured this book in 1.5 sittings (the 0.5 being the little I was able to read during my break at work). I don't know if the similarities are wishful thinking on my part or if the author took inspiration from Fairy Tail, but either way I was SO EXCITED with the connections I was making. Say hello to the more adult, urban fantasy version of Fairy Tail, one of my FAVORITE ANIMES OF ALL TIME. Magic guilds, Elemental mages and psychics and other magic people, strong sense of friendship and loyalty.what does this remind me of?. Seriously, has anyone figured out how we can jump out of our world into the world of a book? Is there some sort of book Tardis somewhere? For real though, has someone invented a book Tardis? Bearing a mysterious symbol branded on his neck, channeling strange powers, he’s often fueled by rage and violence throughout his adventures, collaterally helping people in need as he stomps his way through the world. 1) about? The story follows Guts, a lone swordsman journeying across lands with his gigantic sword, his repeater crossbow, and his cannon arm, meddling in brutal affairs as he’s continuously put into and looking to be in situations that will allow him to exact revenge or violent justice upon aggressors. Through its stubborn and homicidal protagonist, mangaka Kentaro Miura explores one man’s indisputable determination within an unjust, immoral, and murderous world. Spawning a beloved anime television series and a movie trilogy, its horror penchant within an adult fantasy universe unlocked a treacherous and unpredictable world filled with hideous and villainous creatures and beings for fans to indulge in. With the recent news of the manga being continued by his assistants and childhood friend and manga artist Kouji Mori despite Kentaro Miura’s passing, fans march on with fervour and great anticipation to see the iconic series come to an end. Oh, how it is difficult not to acknowledge the cultural impact of mangaka Kentaro Miura’s Berserk on manga and anime since 1989. If you cut back on sleep you are reducing the amount of time the skin has to repair, which can affect the way you look.”Īccording to Olszewski, skin cells regenerate more quickly at night. “Your skin goes through much of its restoration while you sleep. “The ability of skin to retain moisture, protect and heal all combat the signs of aging,” said Olszewski. The well-rested participants also rated themselves as more attractive in a self-evaluation. When you sleep, your skin has a chance to regenerate and get ready for tomorrow.” Sleep Protects SkinĪ study in the journal Clinical and Experimental Dermatology found that people who slept seven to nine hours a night had skin that was more moisturized and that could protect and heal itself better after being exposed to ultraviolet light compared to those who slept five hours or less. “All day your skin is a barrier that protects you from light, pollution, germs, dryness, wetness and more. “The value of sleep with regard to beauty is that it gives your skin time to rebuild itself,” said Karin Olszewski, RN, of Samaritan Plastic, Reconstructive & Hand Surgery. You know you need seven to nine hours of sleep a night to feel your best the next day, but isn’t the idea of “beauty sleep” just a myth? I tried to find some harmony between the adventurous, picaresque inner rhythm that prompted me to write and the frantic spectacle of the world, sometimes dramatic and sometimes grotesque. Full of good intentions, I tried to identify myself with the ruthless energies propelling the events of our century, both collective and individual. When I began my career, the categorical imperative of every young writer was to represent his own time. In this talk I shall try to explain-both to myself and to you-why I have come to consider lightness a value rather than a defect to indicate the works of the past in which I recognize my ideal of lightness and to show where I situate this value in the present and how I project it into the future. I have tried to remove weight, sometimes from people, sometimes from heavenly bodies, sometimes from cities above all I have tried to remove weight from the structure of stories and from language. I would suggest this: my working method has more often than not involved the subtraction of weight. This does not mean that I consider the virtues of weight any less compelling, but simply that I have more to say about lightness.Īfter forty years of writing fiction, after exploring various roads and making diverse experiments, the time has come for me to look for an overall definition of my work. I will devote my first lecture to the opposition between lightness and weight, and will uphold the values of lightness. Our possessions, our health, and even the people we love: all of these things will eventually go away, and with our spirits so dim, we don't even have the ability to recognize how beautiful these "transient" shadows are until they're gone. What are shadows in this instance? Well, they're things that come and go very quickly (transient), which is just like a lot of things in our lives. Again, the poem tries to convey the numbness of modern life by saying that the "light" of our souls isn't bright enough to create the fleeting, "transient beauty" of shadows. In other words, the speaker tells us here that there might still be a little bit of spirit (light) left in our modern lives, but it's dim at best. This "dim light" of unhappiness contrasts with the spiritual brightness that fills the pool in line 37.He falls right back into talking about how worrying about the past and future, or "time before and time after," is basically a place of "disaffection" or unhappiness that keeps us feeling crummy. The speaker is still trying to describe exactly how modern folks like ourselves can find spiritual peace. Here is a place of disaffection Time before and time after In a dim light: neither daylight Investing shadow into transient beauty With slow rotation suggesting permanence Nor darkness to purify the soul Emptying the sensual with deprivation Cleansing affection from the temporal.

From its unorthodox narrative structure, to its towering characterizations, to its unfettered morality, the talking heads of the day panned East of Eden for being too grandiose for its own galoshes.
